When it comes to increasing fitness performance, functional training is far superior to other types of resistance training because:
- It forces you to use your entire body during exercise, which
builds a strong foundation of core and functional strength, while working
specific muscle groups. This increases your ability to perform more
challenging exercises, while decreasing the possibility of injury.
- Athletic performance requires strong body stabilization mechanisms in all planes of movement. Without a strong

perform with the explosive strength and reactivity required in an athletic

In a functional training program, the exercises performed mimic the multiplanar, unstable environment that you face on the athletic field.
